Two Fike Wrestlers brought home individual titles from Saturday’s Pierce-Davis Tournament held at North Pitt High School. Junior Zovek Chapa captured the 113 pound title by going 3-0. Also, Junior Alcindor Winstead captured the 170 pound title by going 3-0. Chapa was seeded number 1. He defeated First Flight’s Andrew Griffin by a score of 3-1 in the championship match. Winstead was the seeded number 4. In the championship match, he pinned Rob Bunch of Edenton Holmes in the third period. To get to the final, Alcindor came back from a 5-0 deficit to eventually defeated number 1 seed Jorge Martinez of Ayden-Grifton. Winstead won 10-5. Sophomore, Brian Weaver of the 106 pound category, finished third. Also, Junior Maxwell Noonan of the 145 pound category finished third. “The guys wrestled very well and have shown much improvement over the start of the season,â€? coach Mike Wickham said. Sophomore Quemel Pearce (132 pounds), sophomore Jalal Jalal (220 pounds) and senior Michael Richardson (138) had multiple wins.
Fike goes to Cleveland on Tuesday for a tri-meet along with Corinth Holders.
